Blood Sugar Supplements in Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Blood sugar supplements in pregnancy are a topic to raise with your care team before buying anything. Many supplements have not been tested in pregnant or nursing women, and several herbs in blends like Payarmin carry pregnancy or breastfeeding notes. The Payarmin label asks pregnant or nursing mothers to consult a physician first.

Are blood sugar supplements safe in pregnancy?
Nobody can promise that, because most of these products were never tested in pregnancy.
The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health says many supplements have not been tested in pregnant women, nursing mothers or children (NCCIH, Using supplements wisely).
That matters for blends. A bottle like Payarmin mixes herbs, amino acids and a licorice compound, with no single amounts printed. Each part brings its own pregnancy question.
If you are pregnant and have high blood sugar or gestational diabetes, your care team sets the plan. Keep taking prescribed medicine, and ask before adding anything.
Ingredient notes02
What do sources say about pregnancy and breastfeeding?
Several Payarmin blend ingredients have a pregnancy or nursing note, and for some the note is only that safety is unknown.
| Ingredient | Pregnancy | Breastfeeding |
|---|---|---|
| Asian (Panax) ginseng | May be unsafe by mouth (NCCIH, Asian ginseng) | Little is known (NCCIH, Asian ginseng) |
| Licorice compound | Large amounts linked to earlier delivery (NCCIH, Licorice root) | Little is known (NCCIH, Licorice root) |
| Maca | May not be safe (MSKCC, Maca) | May not be safe (MSKCC, Maca) |
| Eleuthero | No source found in our list | Avoid, safety unknown (MSKCC, Siberian ginseng) |
| Green tea and guarana (caffeine) | Keep to moderate levels (NCCIH, Green tea) | Caffeine passes into milk (NCCIH, Green tea) |
The label gives no amounts for any of these, so none of the notes can be matched to a dose.
On the label03
What does the Payarmin label say about pregnancy?
The label says pregnant or nursing mothers, anyone under 18 and anyone with a known medical condition should consult a physician before use.
Chromium is a good example of what the label cannot tell you. Needs are higher in pregnancy (30 mcg a day) and lactation (45 mcg a day) (NIH ODS, Chromium). Payarmin lists 0.7 mcg. The label makes no pregnancy claim.

What should I ask my doctor or midwife?
Bring the bottle, or a photo of the label, to your appointment.

Under 70 mg/dL needs prompt care for many people with diabetes. Faint or confused: call 911 (NIDDK, Low blood glucose).
FAQ05
Pregnancy and supplement questions
Is there a pregnancy-safe version of Payarmin?
We found none. The label gives one formula and asks pregnant or nursing mothers to consult a physician. The sales page describes no separate product for pregnancy. Ask your care team before you consider any blend.
Does breastfeeding change what supplements are advised?
It can. Caffeine from green tea passes into breast milk (NCCIH, Green tea), and eleuthero is advised against while nursing because safety is unknown (MSKCC, Siberian ginseng). Tell your lactation consultant or doctor about every product you take.
Where can I find reliable pregnancy information on supplements?
Start with your own care team and with NCCIH, which notes that many supplements have not been tested in pregnancy (NCCIH, Using supplements wisely). We found no source on gestational diabetes supplements, so we give no advice on them.
Can I keep taking my usual supplements once I know I am pregnant?
Ask your care team at once. Many supplements have not been tested in pregnancy (NCCIH, Using supplements wisely). Bring every bottle to the visit.
