Payarmin Side Effects: Cautions, Interactions and Who Should Ask First

Quick answer

Payarmin side effects have not been measured, because no trial has tested the drops. What exists are cautions for single ingredients: caffeine from guarana and green tea, a licorice compound that can affect blood pressure, and possible added effect with diabetes medicine. People on medicine should ask a clinician first.

Written by the Payarmin label deskUpdated

The short list01

What side effects could Payarmin cause?

Nobody can give a Payarmin side effect rate, because no trial has tested the finished drops. The known risks come from the ingredients on the label.

Single amounts are hidden inside a 200 mg blend, so the real exposure is unknown. A low dose can still matter to a person who takes certain medicines or reacts to caffeine.

A caution below is a reported risk, not a promise that the drops will cause it.

Main cautions for Payarmin ingredients, from public sources
Ingredient (place in blend)Reported cautionSource
Guarana (3rd)Caffeine source; nausea, insomnia; heartbeat and blood pressure changes at high doses(MSKCC, Guarana)
Green tea (7th)Caffeine; extracts can rarely injure the liver(NIH LiverTox, Green tea)
Gymnema (8th)Rare reports of liver injury(NIH LiverTox, Gymnema)
Licorice compound (18th)Irregular heartbeat in large or long-term amounts(NCCIH, Licorice root)
African mango (4th)Gas, headache, trouble sleeping(MSKCC, African mango)
Chromium (0.7 mcg)May add to insulin; less levothyroxine absorbed(NIH ODS, Chromium)

Caffeine02

Can Payarmin cause jitters because of guarana?

It can in someone sensitive to caffeine. Guarana and green tea both carry caffeine, and the label prints no caffeine amount.

Guarana seed extract is the third blend line, and green tea leaf extract is the seventh. Guarana seeds contain caffeine and caffeine-like chemicals (MSKCC, Guarana). Too much caffeine can cause a racing heart, jitters, poor sleep, anxiety and an upset stomach (FDA, How much caffeine).

The FDA says 400 mg of caffeine a day is not generally linked to harm in most adults (FDA, How much caffeine). A 12-ounce cup of green tea has about 37 mg. We cannot say where the drops fall, since the amount is unprinted.

The sales page tells people with heart problems or high blood pressure to check with a health professional first (Payarmin sales page).

Low blood sugar03

Can Payarmin cause low blood sugar?

It is possible for people on insulin or a sulfonylurea, because several ingredients may add to the effect of diabetes medicine. For people not on such medicine, the risk is not known.

The NIH says chromium could raise the risk of low blood sugar when taken with insulin, and may add to other diabetes drugs (NIH ODS, Chromium). Asian ginseng might lower blood sugar, so people with diabetes should consult a provider (NCCIH, Asian ginseng). African mango may add to diabetes drugs in rat studies (MSKCC, African mango).

No trial shows Payarmin lowers blood sugar, and none shows it causes lows. The honest answer is "unknown, so ask." A reading under 70 mg/dL needs prompt care (NIDDK, Low blood glucose).

Keep taking prescribed medicine

Never stop or change a diabetes medicine because of a supplement. Shakiness, sweating, hunger, confusion or a fast heartbeat can signal a low. If someone is faint or confused, call 911.

Blood pressure04

Can Payarmin raise blood pressure?

Two ingredients raise the question: the licorice compound and guarana. The effect depends on the amount, which the label hides.

Monoammonium glycyrrhizinate, the 18th line, is a licorice-root compound. Glycyrrhizin from licorice can cause serious effects such as irregular heartbeat, especially in large amounts or long-term use. People with high blood pressure, heart or kidney conditions face higher risk (NCCIH, Licorice root). The 18th line holds at most 11 mg per 1 mL by label order.

Guarana at high doses can raise blood pressure (MSKCC, Guarana). Other lines point the other way. Forskolin and arginine may add to blood pressure medicine (MSKCC, Forskolin) (MSKCC, Arginine). So a person on blood pressure medicine has several reasons to ask a pharmacist.

Stomach, head, sleep05

Can Payarmin upset the stomach or cause headaches and poor sleep?

Possibly. Stomach upset, headache and trouble sleeping are reported for several of its ingredients, though at doses that may be higher than the drops hold.

The label says to take 1 or 2 droppers daily and not to exceed the recommended dose. The sales page recommends the morning (Payarmin sales page).

Who should ask a doctor before taking Payarmin?

Anyone on diabetes medicine, a blood thinner, or blood pressure or heart medicine. The label adds anyone pregnant, nursing, under 18 or with a known medical condition.

Also ask first if you take an antidepressant, levothyroxine or a drug that grapefruit affects (FDA, Grapefruit and drugs). Grapefruit is on the label. The five questions below are a checklist, not medical advice.

1. Do you take insulin or another diabetes medicine, such as metformin or a sulfonylurea?
2. Are you pregnant or nursing, under 18, or do you have a known medical condition?
3. Do you take a blood thinner, such as warfarin, apixaban or clopidogrel?
4. Do you take a blood pressure or heart rhythm medicine, or have you been told you have a heart problem?
5. Is there a dog at home that could reach the bottle?

Other cautions07

What else should you know before you start?

Three more cautions: the liver, pets, and the label itself.

Green tea extract is a well-established cause of rare liver injury, usually 1 to 6 months after starting (NIH LiverTox, Green tea). Gymnema has rare reports as well (NIH LiverTox, Gymnema).

Xylitol in the other ingredients is poisonous to pets (ASPCA, Xylitol). Store the bottle out of reach, and keep it away from heat, light and humidity, as the label asks. Do not use it if the safety seal is damaged or missing.

If something happens08

What should you do if you have a reaction to Payarmin?

Stop taking the drops, call your clinician, and report it. Call 911 for trouble breathing, fainting, chest pain or a seizure.

Keep the bottle and note the lot number, P-26/GO-5465. It is a seller reference, not lab proof. Anyone can report a supplement reaction to the FDA through its Safety Reporting Portal, though consumers are told to contact a health care provider first (FDA, Dietary supplements Q and A).

FAQ09

Payarmin side effect questions

What side effects could Payarmin cause?

No one knows the rate, since no trial has tested the drops. Ingredient sources report caffeine effects from guarana and green tea, stomach upset, headache, poor sleep and possible added effect with diabetes medicine. Amounts are hidden, so ask a clinician first.

Can Payarmin cause jitters because of guarana?

Yes, for people sensitive to caffeine. Guarana is the third blend line and green tea the seventh, and both carry caffeine. The label prints no caffeine amount. Start low, watch for a racing heart or poor sleep, and count other caffeine you take.

Can Payarmin upset the stomach?

It might. Arginine and glutamine are both linked to stomach upset, and arginine to bloating and nausea. The amounts in the blend are hidden and capped by label order.

Can Payarmin cause low blood sugar?

It is possible with insulin or a sulfonylurea, since chromium may add to them. Ginseng and African mango carry similar cautions. No trial has tested the drops. Ask your clinician, and treat any reading under 70 mg/dL promptly.

Can Payarmin raise blood pressure?

Possibly. The 18th line is a licorice compound, and licorice's glycyrrhizin can affect heart rhythm in large or long-term amounts. Guarana can raise pressure at high doses. Check with a clinician first if you have high blood pressure or a heart condition.

What should I do if I have a reaction to Payarmin?

Stop taking the drops and contact your clinician. Call 911 for severe symptoms such as trouble breathing, fainting or chest pain. Then report the reaction, and ask the order desk about the 60-day refund if you want your money back.

How do I report a supplement side effect to the FDA?

Use the FDA Safety Reporting Portal online. Consumers are advised to talk to a health care provider first. Have the product name, the lot number, the date you started and a short description of what happened ready when you file.

Can Payarmin cause headaches or poor sleep?

It might. Guarana and Asian ginseng are linked to insomnia, and African mango to headaches and trouble sleeping. Amounts are hidden. If sleep suffers, try the morning, as the sales page suggests, and see a clinician if it continues.
