Cinnamon for Blood Sugar: What the Reviews Say
Cinnamon for blood sugar has mixed support. NCCIH says cinnamon reviews are mixed and that herbal supplements such as cinnamon, taken with diabetes drugs, can cause unwanted side effects. Payarmin does not list cinnamon. We found no source in our list on cassia versus Ceylon or on coumarin.

The evidence01
Does cinnamon help blood sugar?
Possibly a little, but the reviews do not agree.
NCCIH lists cinnamon among the supplements some studies suggest might help with blood sugar control. In the same page, it calls cinnamon reviews mixed (NCCIH, Diabetes and supplements). It also says that for most supplements there is no evidence of a benefit on diabetes or its complications (NCCIH, Diabetes and supplements).
No source we read gives a cinnamon dose that works.
Reading a label02
Cassia vs Ceylon: what should you check?
Check the species name first, because cassia and Ceylon are different plants.
We did not find a source in our evidence list on coumarin or on how the two compare, so we make no safety claim about either. Use the label itself.
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Species named (cassia, Ceylon or just "cinnamon") | A vague name hides which plant you take |
| Part used (bark, extract) | An extract is not the same as ground spice |
| Amount per serving, in mg | Without it you cannot compare to a study |
| Blend or single line | Blends hide each amount, which is legal (eCFR, 21 CFR 101.36) |
Medicines03
Is cinnamon safe with diabetes drugs?
Ask first. NCCIH says herbal supplements such as cinnamon, taken with diabetes drugs, can cause unwanted side effects (NCCIH, Diabetes and supplements).
Low blood sugar is one risk to discuss. A reading under 70 mg/dL needs prompt care, and a faint or confused person needs a 911 call (NIDDK, Low blood glucose). Keep taking prescribed medicine and never swap it for a spice or capsule.
Payarmin has no cinnamon among its 23 label lines, so this caution is about other products. Read the medicine interaction guide and browse our guides for more.
FAQ04
Cinnamon questions
Is Ceylon cinnamon better than cassia for blood sugar?
We did not find a source that compares them for blood sugar, so we cannot say. NCCIH calls cinnamon reviews mixed without ranking types. Check which species a product names and ask your pharmacist.
How much cinnamon should I take?
We cannot give a dose. The NCCIH summary we read gives none, and we have no other source in our list. Follow the label, do not exceed it, and ask your clinician if you take diabetes medicine.
Does Payarmin have cinnamon in it?
No. The label lists chromium plus a blend of 22 ingredients, from maca to L-carnitine, and cinnamon is not among them. The sales page names six ingredients, and cinnamon is not one of them.
Can cinnamon replace my diabetes medicine?
No. NCCIH warns not to replace medical treatment for diabetes with an unproven health product. Cinnamon reviews are mixed, and it can interact with diabetes drugs. Talk to your clinician before any change.
