Raspberry Ketones Evidence: What We Could and Could Not Verify

Quick answer

Raspberry ketones evidence is thin in the sources we could open. We found no NIH or Memorial Sloan Kettering page on raspberry ketone alone, so we make no claim that it works or fails. An FTC case shows how weight-loss claims on such products were policed. Payarmin lists it 13th, at no more than 15 mg per 1 mL.

What we found01

Is there good raspberry ketones evidence for weight loss?

We could not verify any. No official NIH or Memorial Sloan Kettering page on raspberry ketone alone could be fetched for this post, so we cannot describe human trials.

We would rather say that than repeat a number from a sales page. A claim with no named study is an advertisement, not evidence.

The FTC case02

What did the FTC do about raspberry ketone products?

In 2014 the FTC settled with the marketer of Healthe Trim supplements, which were sold as "clinically proven" to cause weight loss (FTC, HealthyLife Sciences).

Some formulas in that line contained raspberry ketone, alongside green coffee bean and garcinia cambogia. The settlement banned the CEO from marketing weight-loss products and said other weight-loss claims need two randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled human trials (FTC, HealthyLife Sciences).

What this does and does not show

It shows the standard regulators expect behind a weight-loss claim. It does not test whether raspberry ketone works or is safe, and it does not involve Payarmin.

On the label03

How much raspberry ketones are in Payarmin?

The label does not say. Raspberry ketones are 13th of 22 blend lines, so they hold at most 15 mg per 1 mL (200 divided by 13).

The blend order is required by law, but single amounts are not (eCFR, 21 CFR 101.36). The ceiling is our reading of label order, not a lab result.

Payarmin's label makes no weight claim. Its front says "Helps Convert Nutrients Into Usable Energy*". No trial of the finished formula was found, and the sales page claims are not cited.

A habit worth keeping04

How should you treat a weight-loss claim?

  • Ask for the study, the dose and the product tested.
  • Be wary of "clinically proven" with no link to a trial.
  • Remember that a supplement does not replace advice from your clinician.

Keep taking prescribed medicine. The ingredients page and the benefits page test the label claims against sources.

FAQ05

Raspberry ketone questions

What are raspberry ketones?

Raspberry ketone is a plant compound sold as a supplement ingredient. Payarmin lists raspberry ketones thirteenth in its blend. We found no official page on its human effects, so we make no benefit claim.

Do raspberry ketones cause weight loss?

We could not verify that. The FTC case we cite concerns how weight-loss claims were marketed, not whether raspberry ketone works, so it cannot be used as proof either way.

Why does the FTC case matter here?

It shows what regulators expect: competent human trials behind weight-loss claims. A sales claim with no named trial falls short of that standard, whatever the ingredient.

Is the raspberry ketone in Payarmin a full dose?

Unknown. The label hides each amount. By label order, raspberry ketones hold at most 15 mg per 1 mL, and we found no studied dose to compare with.
