Xylitol and Dogs: Where to Keep Payarmin at Home

Quick answer

Xylitol and dogs do not mix. The Payarmin label lists xylitol among its other ingredients, and the ASPCA warns that xylitol can cause low blood sugar and liver damage in pets. The amount in the drops is not printed, so store the dropper bottle where no animal can reach it.

The warning01

Why is xylitol dangerous to dogs and other pets?

Xylitol can cause low blood sugar and liver damage in pets (ASPCA, Xylitol).

The ASPCA page we read names pets in general. It does not name dogs in that entry, so we do not add dog-specific figures. Your vet can speak to your own animal.

The first signs are vomiting, lethargy and loss of coordination. These can progress to seizures. Liver damage can appear within 12 to 24 hours, and can cause abnormal bleeding (ASPCA, Xylitol).

Payarmin lists xylitol in its other ingredients line, after stevia extract. Nothing says how much is in a dropper.

Storage02

Where should I store liquid supplement drops at home?

Pick a closed spot that is out of reach and also meets the label's storage rule.

The label says to keep the bottle away from heat, light and humidity, and out of reach of children. A pet-proof spot should do all of this at once.

If it happens03

What should I do if my pet licks the drops?

Call your veterinarian right away. Do not wait for signs.

  1. Remove the bottle

Take it away and wipe up any spill. Note how much may be missing.

  2. Call a vet or an animal poison service

Give the label's other ingredients, which list xylitol.

  3. Follow their advice

Watch for vomiting, tiredness and wobbliness, the signs the ASPCA lists (ASPCA, Xylitol).

Do not guess at a safe amount.

The label gives no xylitol amount and no dropper volume, so no one can calculate the dose for your animal from the bottle alone.

Beyond pets04

Does xylitol matter for people taking these drops?

Xylitol is an added sweetener here, and the ASPCA page we read covers pets only (ASPCA, Xylitol).

We found no source on xylitol and people in our evidence list, so we make no claim. Read the full Supplement Facts panel and the how to use page for the label's directions. Keep taking prescribed medicine, and ask a clinician about anything else. The side effects page lists human cautions.

FAQ05

Xylitol and pet safety questions

Is xylitol listed on the Payarmin label?

Yes. The other ingredients line lists glycerin, water, organic lemon extract, stevia extract, xylitol, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, citric acid and natural flavors. No xylitol amount is printed.

Which other household items contain xylitol?

The ASPCA page names gum, candy, baked goods and toothpaste (ASPCA, Xylitol). Check labels for anything sweetened without sugar before leaving it where a pet can reach it.

Is stevia in the drops also a risk to pets?

We found no source in our list that says so, and we make no claim. The ASPCA warning we read concerns xylitol (ASPCA, Xylitol). Ask your vet about any other ingredient.

Should I keep the Payarmin bottle in the refrigerator?

The label does not say so. It says to keep the bottle away from heat, light and humidity. Pick a cool, dark, dry cupboard that no pet or child can open.
